You have found an apartment in Stuttgart? Then you need to register your residence. You can find out what you need to do here.

Don't worry about registering your new apartment. The Welcome Center is there to help you with lots of information.

Register residence

Anyone moving within Stuttgart, from another German city or from abroad to an apartment in Stuttgart must register their place of residence in person within two weeks. In Stuttgart, this is possible at any citizens' office. There are citizens' offices in every city district. The following  view (opens in a new tab) informs you in real time about the expected waiting situation in front of each citizens' office. This service allows you to better plan your visit to a citizens' office.

Please bring your identity card or passport and  confirmation from your landlord PDF-File 605,61 kB with you to the citizens' office. You will receive a confirmation of registration. This document shows how long you have been living in Germany - or Stuttgart.

Report to the immigration office

Every foreigner who is not an EU citizen and comes to Germany must register with the local foreigners authority. In Stuttgart, this authority is part of the Office for Public Order.

Here (opens in a new tab) you will find information on how to find a suitable appointment for your request with the Foreigners' Registration Office.

Online registration

You can register your new residence easily and conveniently online. To use the online application, you need a Baden-Württemberg service account at  www.service-bw.de (opens in a new tab). Please log in with your existing service account or register free of charge.

With the service account Baden-Württemberg you can communicate securely with the administration, for example with your citizens' office. You can submit online applications and receive feedback securely digitally. You can store frequently used documents in your document safe and retrieve them securely from anywhere.
