Religion and Beliefs

For many people, their faith offers a spiritual home that supports them in their daily lives and in special moments of their life. Churches and religious communities provide orientation and identification. All major world religions are represented in Stuttgart. They are an important part of our cultural life.

Protestant and Catholic churches

66 Protestant churches in the state capital are part of the Protestant parish of Stuttgart. There are also numerous institutions and organisations. Around 162,000 Stuttgart residents belong to the Protestant Church.

The Catholic Municipal Deanery of Stuttgart covers the Stuttgart state capital region with its 46 parishes - around 150,000 people in Stuttgart belong to the Catholic Church. 18 communities of Catholics with a different native language reflect the international character of Stuttgart.

Islamic religious communities

Around 10% of all Stuttgart residents are Muslims. There are over 20 Muslim religious institutions in Stuttgart, organised on an ethnic and sectarian basis. The communities provide prayer rooms and religion-orientated activities.

Israeli religious community of Württemberg

Jewish life in Stuttgart is practised, taught and lived and breathed in the Stuttgart synagogue. With numerous religious activities and services, the Israeli religious community of Württemberg also offers a Jewish primary school and nursery school in addition to religious education.
