Our neighbours

The former orphanage has now become an international meeting place: Welthaus e.V. and the world shop have opened their new premises directly adjacent to the Welcome Centre. The old orphanage is an information centre, a place to meet people and exchange ideas and a centre providing a welcoming and recognition culture for people from all over the world who come together in Stuttgart. For example, the Institute for Foreign Relations, the German-American Centre / James-F.-Byrnes-Institut Stuttgart e.V. or Engagement Global etc. are also housed under its roof.

World Café

Welthaus Stuttgart e.V. has opened directly adjacent to the Welcome Centre Stuttgart: it has a World Café and global classrooms for meetings and events that are available to Stuttgart citizens and people from all over the world. The World Café is no ordinary café but instead an open events venue and meeting place.

Stuttgart buys fair: the world shop in the former orphanage opened its doors on September 22nd, 2014, thus offering people the opportunity to experience the world of fair trade in all its diversity in the centre of Stuttgart. A visit to the world shop is a voyage of discovery: aromatic coffee, savoury spices, beautiful gifts - you will find products from all over the world here. And, the products in the world shop are not only of exceptional quality, they also come from fair trade sources. Incidentally, the state capital of Stuttgart has been a Fairtrade city since autumn 2013.

Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations

Also in the Old Orphanage is the ifa (Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations): It is committed to the peaceful and enriching coexistence of people and cultures worldwide and is committed to intercultural exchange.
As part of a global cooperation, international cultural relations should be promoted and civil society, cultural practice, art, media and science networked.

In addition, the ifa library is the world's only specialized scientific library on foreign cultural and educational policy that offers a large body of specialist literature.

You want to learn German or improve your German language skills? There are various course offers in the ifa Academy.
