School
Children in Germany are required to attend school from the age of six. When your child reaches the age of six you will automatically receive an invitation to register them with the nearest primary school. Parents who are new to the area and whose child has reached the age of six must register their child independently. You can find the relevant school for you at the Citizens' Service Centres , theFamily Information Serviceor the Youth and Family Counselling Centre .
Once your child has completed the four year primary school, you as parents will decide the secondary school that they will attend: technical secondary school, secondary modern school, community school or grammar school. Class teachers and school headteachers will advice and assist you in choosing the correct type of school for your child.
If your child already attended school in your previous place of residence but speaks no German or very little German, they can attend an international preparatory class. Information is available from
Stuttgart State Education Authority.
