Customs

• Household effects: all personal belongings, household, bed and table linen, furniture and appliances that you need for personal use.
• Private vehicles of all kinds: bicycles and motorcycles, passenger cars (with trailers, if applicable), camping trailers, water sports vehicles and sports aircraft (proof must be provided by means of a certificate from the competent foreign authority that the vehicle or aircraft was registered for traffic in your name in the country concerned).
• Household supplies, provided that they do not exceed the quantity normally held as stock by one family - for this purpose, the quantity customarily held at the old place of residence is to be taken as the basis.
  Household pets and riding animals.
• Portable instruments and equipment for craft or professional activities, provided you need them to carry out your profession.

• Alcoholic products
• Tobacco and tobacco products
• Commercial vehicles
• Commercial items, except portable instruments and equipment used for craft or professional activities.

If you enter Germany from an EU state, you can bring your private household goods with you without customs formalities.

If you are entering from a non-EU country, you must declare your personal effects. The exact regulations and forms can be found on the  customs website (opens in a new tab).

If you are entering Germany directly from a non-EU state and are carrying cash with a total value of 10,000 euros or more, you must declare it in writing to the customs office upon entry.

If you are entering Germany via another member state of the European Union and are carrying cash or equivalent means of payment with a total value of 10,000 euros or more, you only have to declare them verbally at the request of the control officers.
