Mothers and fathers living permanently in Germany can receive child benefit. It is generally paid until the child reaches the age of 18, in certain cases even longer. You submit the application to the  Federal Employment Agency Family Fund (opens in a new tab).

Single parents and parents with a low income can apply for a child supplement . The amount of the child supplement is based on the income and assets of the parents and the children.

Nationals of EU member states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland are generally entitled to child benefit if they work or live in Germany.

For foreigners from third countries, the following applies: people with a settlement permit or recognized refugees can receive child benefits. Those who have a residence permit are only entitled to child benefits if they are also entitled to work in Germany or have already worked here with a permit.

Mothers and fathers who look after and raise their children themselves after the birth, do not work more than 30 hours a week, live in a household with their children and live in Germany are entitled to parental allowance .

The parental allow ance is based on the amount of monthly net disposable income that the parent taking care of the child had before the child was born and that now ceases to exist after the birth. It amounts to around two-thirds of the previous income. Even if you did not have a job before the birth, you can still receive parental allowance.

If the mother and father share parental leave, they will receive parental allowance together for a maximum of 14 months. One parent can receive parental allowance for a minimum of two and a maximum of twelve months.

With this voluntary social benefit, the city wants to enable all children and young people to take part in the wide range of leisure and educational activities on offer in Stuttgart.

You do not need to submit an application for the FamilienCard. You simply need to submit a current income tax statement or the December pay slip or the electronic income tax statement for the previous year. You will also need this proof if you want to reload the card.

Only persons whose main place of residence is registered in Stuttgart and who receive at least one of the following benefits are eligible to receive the Bonuscard + Culture:

• Benefits according to the Social Security Code
• Second Book (SGB II) Basic income support
• Assistance with living expenses and benefits in full inpatient care facilities in accordance with the German Social Code, Twelfth Book (SGB XII)2
• Benefits in accordance with the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act (AsylbLG)
• Housing benefit in accordance with the Housing Benefit Act (WoGG)
• Child supplement according to the BKKG (not child benefit)
• Income and property-related benefits in accordance with the German Social Code, Book Eight (SGB VIII)

If you have a Bonuscard, you can, for example, use public transport in Stuttgart (VVS) at cheaper rates. The additional offer "Culture for All" enables Bonuscard+Culture holders to attend cultural events free of charge.

With the  State Family Pass and the accompanying voucher card, families who are permanent residents of Baden-Württemberg, including foreign families, can visit state-owned castles, gardens and museums a total of 20 times a year for free or at a reduced admission fee.
