The Health Promotion and Health Planning Department at the Public Health Department is tasked with promoting the health of Stuttgart's residents and closing gaps in health care provision. The aim is to make living conditions in the city health-promoting overall, to create equal opportunities with regard to health and to strengthen the topics of health and health prevention in all urban fields of action.

In addition to the task of managing the Municipal Health Conference, the department is also responsible for health reporting, health promotion for children and young people and for older people, nutritional advice, addiction prevention and social planning for the areas of prostitution, AIDS and STIs. The obesity advice center for overweight children and adolescents and their families is also part of this department, as is the midwifery service in Stuttgart. Other measures include projects with migrants and a project with school health professionals.
