Management position

The digitalization of schools is a step towards modern and future-oriented education. By using the latest technologies, individual support for pupils can be implemented and their learning enriched. Teachers can access a variety of digital support tools and platforms to make lessons more dynamic and cater to different learning styles. With the digitalization of schools, we want to play a key role in developing important skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving skills and media literacy. Students learn not only to consume information, but also to critically question, analyze and creatively apply it.

Together with Stuttgart's schools, the IT Competence Center Schools of the Stuttgart School Administration Office is implementing the digitalization of Stuttgart's schools under the motto "Technology follows pedagogy".

From the launch of "Schule Online" in 1998 to the current digitization projects of the state capital of Stuttgart and the federal and state funding programs, a wide variety of digitization measures have been and are being implemented in schools.

The educational requirements of Stuttgart's schools are at the heart of the IT Competence Center Schools' digitalization concepts. The school-specific pedagogical priorities are translated into digital requirements by the Media Development Planning team and implemented in the technical standards and concepts by the other specialist departments. The Stuttgart City Media Centre, together with the IT Competence Centre for Schools, complements the Stuttgart school digitization portfolio with regional digital training measures and other innovation and extracurricular offers for Stuttgart schools.

As the basis for the digitalization of schools, the Stuttgart School Intranet (SWIS) has been implemented since 1996 to connect all schools to the city network. By the beginning of 2024, all Stuttgart schools will be connected to the fiber optic network. This central, high-performance, redundant internet connection supports the digital operation of Stuttgart's schools.

Digital building cabling in the schools is essential in order to implement all digital multimedia room standards and concepts. All classrooms must therefore be equipped with IT and media connections. Wi-Fi, charging and storage options, presentation media and fixed and mobile workstations for teachers and pupils can only be used effectively in everyday teaching with a comprehensive IT and media infrastructure.

The IT Competence Center also assists Stuttgart schools with IT support requests and problems. Since 2003, the Stuttgart Schools Service Desk has provided Stuttgart schools with a central point of contact. The qualified staff at the Service Desk are available to answer initial enquiries by telephone, email or the ticket system - including creating tickets and forwarding them to the right contact person or service provider.
