The Infection Protection Act (IfSG) contains a number of provisions to improve hygiene in hospitals and other medical facilities. The health offices and the other state health authorities can take measures to combat infections. Therefore, healthcare facilities are subject to infection hygiene surveillance by the health department. The Infection Hygiene Surveillance Team, which is part of the Infection Prevention Unit, takes care of this task. The inspection of the facility can take place either on an ad hoc basis or on a routine basis. As a rule, the inspections are announced.
